Purple Prose

obama, obama jokes, political, humor, cartoon, conservative, hope n' change, hope and change, stilton jarlsberg, prince

The music world was stunned yesterday when Prince, the artist formerly known as "the artist formerly known as Prince," was found dead in an elevator at age 57.  The cause of death is thought to have been Muzak poisoning.

No, no - at the time of this writing, we don't know what caused Prince's untimely death, and moreover Hope n' Change is genuinely sorry to see him go. Unlike so many celebrities and musicians these days, he was actually talented and left a lot of good music behind.

Of course, Barack Obama wasted no time whatsoever in eulogizing Prince, declaring "few artists have influenced the sound and trajectory of popular music more distinctly, or touched quite so many people with their talent." Which would have been an excellent place to stop. But noooo- Barry then had to add "a strong spirit transcends rules," which not only summarizes his policy on Executive Orders, but is also expected to be Hillary Clinton's line of defense when she finally gives testimony on her serial acts of criminal misconduct.

On a final note, as of this writing Hope n' Change cannot confirm reports that, just before dying, Prince begged Joe Biden to run for president.

BONUS: PUT IT ON MY BILL

Also in the news, it was announced that Harriet Tubman, a gun-toting former slave (gosh, that 2nd Amendment sure comes in handy sometimes, doesn't it Liberals?) and hero of the Underground Railroad, will be honored by having her portrait put on the $20 bill.

Which is fine with us, although Donald Trump made the no-holds-barred and utterly indecipherable assertion that putting Tubman on the twenty "is very rough" on Andrew Jackson and sneered that this is an act of "pure political correctness" although Harriet Tubman "is fantastic" and she should absolutely be put on our currency.

And no, we have no idea what he's talking about. although in fairness, we're pretty sure that he doesn't either.

Why not put her image on EBT cards? That would be far more appropriate.

Wow! Minimum wage at $15. Who would have thought? Mrs. ET wasn’t making that much until near her retirement and she has an AA degree and about 40 years’ experience as a RDA. In 1970 I was in college and working for $1.70/hr. Of course the cost of everything has gone way up. Did cost go up because of inflation or because of minimum wage going up? I blame both, but mostly the wage going up.

With the new improved wage the people that are already working for $15/hr will demand a raise and on and up the chain. The cost of goods and services will increase to cover the additional cost of labor, etc.. So, in essence our dollars will buy less and all will equal out, except the tax man is the winner because we are taxed mostly on a percentage.

I got lucky and was able to work my way into the occupation of Electronic Technician near the end of my working days. With ever more jobs being replaced by computerized equipment I would recommend to the younger folk (male or female) to get themselves into an occupation that installs or repairs computerized robotic equipment. That’s where the money and the future is.

just my opinion , but I think they should put a pic of Harriet with her pistol!and, since it isn't supposed to go into circulation until 2030, there's still time to keep Jackson (Andrew NOT Jessie) on the $20.
why does it seem that there are a lot of actors and singers dying? I wouldn't dream of wishing harm to anyone (narf!), but shouldn't some politicians be in the mix? I mean statistically speaking.

I actually liked Prince and though he was a musical genius. I actually have a compilation of his greatest stuff- probably the only copy in this part of Texas or Oklahoma. He was the right man at the right time. RIP Prince.
If obongo sent his brother 20 bucks (with or without Harriet's picture) he would actual, no sh*t, double his brothers annual income. Course we don't have to worry, berrie ain't about to do that.(his brother can't vote here) Sad part about it is he isn't even looking for a US govt agency to do that for his brother either.
I have nothing against Harriet Tubman but I got plenty against those who are using her as a weapon to divide us.
They still have warehouses of susan b's they haven't gotten us to use so what could go wrong?

Geoff King said...

It was totally predictable that, with all of the major entertainers who have recently died, the Divider in Chief would only interrupt his busy tee-time schedule to honor the memory of a black artist.

I would not be surprised to see O's pic on a three dollar bill.

If Obama wanted to put a Black of Renown on the twenty, he should have picked Aunt Jemima. Everyone knows who she is.

Great $3 bill idea! They could make them in rolls and we could store them in our bathrooms.

I'm surprised that the mob who wants to put a woman's face on currency picked Harriet Tubman. They certainly could have done worse.

What a year. So many dying. We have three leading candidates (maybe just two now) who are pond scum dictators, and now we find out the Prince was a conservative Christian who opposed gay marriage?

What is the world coming to?

Sieg Heil Drumpf!
Sieg Heil Hillbilly!
Sieg Heil Burndog!
Sieg Heil Woodrow Wilson! [Is he still around? I get carried away with this sort of Nazi stuff when I talk about those three morons.]

I can't say that I was all that much into Prince during his heyday, but I certainly did respect him as a entrepreneur who shook up his industry. Clearly, he was smarter than your typical pop act. Sorry he died so young.

As for Harriet Tubman on the 20-dollar bill, we have to approve. We'll be dumping a slave-owning founding Democrat famous for driving Native Americans from their lands for a gun-toting Republican evangelical Christian who rescued people from slavery instead of selling them on it. If she were alive today, today's Democrats would have her caricatured as an ignorant far-right race-traitor tool like they did Condi Rice.

As for Trump: Anyone else catch his transgender people should “use the bathroom they feel is appropriate,” comment yesterday? I thought he was the non-PC common sense candidate. Did he slip? How many of his devotees yesterday heard that and said "Whaaaaat?"

Do we really want to live in a world where individuals get to decide what is "appropriate" for everyone else regardless of their sensibilities on the subject?

Oh, and what will they think when they learn that "The Donald" up to this point has been mostly "an act", really little different than Hillary?

And Happy Earth Day! Is it just me, or is there decidedly less hype about Earth Day this year? Also, I literally missed "Earth Hour" last month; that insipid idea that we're all supposed to turn off our lights for an hour to demonstrate our deep commitment and awareness against "global warming".

Could it be that it's an election year, and poll after poll shows that people are not buying into the fraud? In fact, they're realizing they're okay with it.

Minimum Wage: I was in LA a few weeks ago when Governor Moonbeam signed California's new $15 minimum wage into law. I have to ask, "Why only $15? Do you know what the cost of living is in LA or San Francisco these days? I honestly don't see how anyone can support a family on anything less that $20 or $25-an-hour."

Ironically, even Governor Moonbeam thinks it's a bad idea:

“Economically, minimum wages may not make sense,” California Governor Jerry Brown said after signing a bill to raise the hourly wage annually until hitting $15 in 2022. But “morally and socially and politically,” he added, the wage hikes “make every sense because it binds the community together and makes sure that parents can take care of their kids in a much more satisfactory way.”

There's Democrats for ya. Moonbeam isn't an idiot; he even openly admits that it's a bad idea! After all, you know what's worse than a low-paying job? No job! But hey, he's got political cover because it's "morally and socially and politically" good. Never mind that it's going to be devastating to the young & unskilled, and to entire communities outside of hyperinflated LA & SF. Many businesses in LA & SF will be able to absorb $15-an-hour, but few in very depressed Imperial or Kern counties will. The only "community binding" that this is going to be doing is permanently binding more people to the welfare system. But at least the coastal liberals can feel good about themselves for supporting it on "moral" grounds.

But now, get this:

LA unions call for exemption from $15 minimum wage they fought for

That's right! The very same people who fought for this now want to be exempt from it! Why? To help make non-union labor more expensive, and union-labor more competitive with market rates. An example of crony capitalism at its finest.

Let's be fair to all. The Bureau of Printing and Engraving should christen a new denomination!
A Three(3) Dollar paper note/bill so the likes of Bruce eh, 'cuse me Caitlin Jenner and those
of the LGBT community would be recognized as being a little different, odd and even queer.
There you have it.

@REM1875 -- If Obama won't help his brother (am I not my brother's keeper? didn't he just have a White House thing about that?) maybe some fine individual could start a gofundme thingie for him.

Regarding the warehouses of Susan B's ... About the same time in the late '70s, early '80s, the gubmint also started printing more two dollah bills. Went over stateside about the same as the Susan Bs. But where I was overseas our 'merican money on base was becoming more Susan Bs and fewer George Washingtons, and more Jeffersons ($2.00 bills). Ya wanted to use the money? You used Susan and Tom. So there.

@Geoff King -- Prince was black? He was lighter than me. And I'm a registered member of the white patriarchy.

@ J the E -- Earth day. Fittingly, also Lenin's birthday. and 4/20 (pot day) is also Hitler's birthday.

So they gave Prince Narcan for his "flu like symptoms" then he goes and wrecks the media spin by dying of what appears to be an overdose less than a week later?
Wasted spin they could have used on sHrillary.

When I was stationed in Connecticut in the service, we were paid (not very much) in $2 bills. We looked for drunk bartenders who would mistaken it for a $20. When it worked, we kept the change. (1965). Then there was a time the post office gave you your change in Susan B. dollars. You raise heil and it did no good.

Just getting back to the PC: Can't say I followed Prince closely but I liked his music. He had genuine talent and also seemed like a nice fellow when we got a glimpse. He not only had unique styles of his own & what he did with the Bangles; but at the R&R Hall of Fame show where many other big names kept up the beat and rhythm and let Prince play the solo.. it was clear this fellow had respect from his peers & could make a guitar sing, soar & weep with George Harrison's "When My Guitar Gently Weeps". If not familiar with this performance, look it up. It's EZ to find and Prince delivered.

Terry McAuliffe is one of the smarmiest bastards in the Democrat party. Have you ever noticed how all these guys like him, Rahm Emanuel, etc. kick around in all sorts of government jobs? I'll bet they've always lived off the teat.

rickn8or said...

My first awareness of McAuliffe was during the 2000 election when Gore dispatched him to Florida with orders to disqualify every possible absentee ballot, on the presumption that absentee=military=Republican. For that I will despise him forever.

Then there's that "automobile company" he was running in North Mississippi before he carpetbagged his way into the Virginia Governor's race. The idea there was to get foreign investors to buy stock in the company, and suddenly their visa problems disappeared.

And Shelly I'm going to have to disagree with you... McAuliffe is slimy, not smarmy. George Stephanopolous is the very definition of smarmy.
